1. Wash hands: It is imperative to teach kids the correct way to wash hands and to explain to them exactly when hands need to be washed. A clean dry towel should be used to pat the hands dry. Use anti-bacterial hand wash/ soap which is loaded with moisturizers to keep your child's hands clean and germ free. Using tissues are much more hygienic as compared to cloth towels.
2. Keeping nails short: Longer nails tend to hold on to a lot of germs and dirt. The contents of the dirty hands easily find their way into your child's mouth and stomach and can make them sick. Additionally, germs in the nails can directly enter the body through scratching and can spread germs to others too. Teach kids to keep their nails on their hands and feet both short and clean.
3. Oral hygiene: Teach kids how to brush their teeth properly and get them in the habit of brushing their teeth twice a day. Additionally, teach them to gargle and clean their mouth post meals to reduce bad breath and cavities. Kids should be taught to floss their teeth at appropriates times in the correct way in addition to cleaning their tongue with a tongue cleaner. teach kids that tooth brushes are not meant for sharing.
4. Clean ears: Ears should be clean regularly with good quality hygienic cotton buds to get all the ear wax out. Not cleaning ears properly can lead to infections and a lot of discomfort. Additionally, the outer ear should be cleaned with water and a tower on a daily basis.
5. Daily showers: Children should be encouraged to shower daily first thing in the morning and a night before going to bed. Additionally, make it a habit to given them a shower after coming from outside.
6. Keep hair clean: children's hair need to be kept clean to avoid a lice infestation. The hair and scalp can get very dirty when playing and travelling. Hair should be oiled and washed regularly to keep it clean and healthy. The scalp and hair should be checked regularly to keep an eye for dandruff, lice and excess hair fall.
7. Personal hygiene: Teach kids how to keep their personal parts clean and how to clean them the proper way. The smile habit goes a long way for a healthy adult life. Teach them that it is important to keep their privates clean and dry.
8. No sharing personal items: Teach children that every day hygiene items like bath towels, tooth brushes, tongue cleaners, combs, etc. are not meant for sharing. They should always use only their own items and keep them clean.
9. Clean clothes: Teach kids to wear clean clothes that have been washed properly and dried out in the sun. Explain them as to why it is important to put the clothes that they have worn in for a wash and why they should wear clean clothes.
10. Skin care: Explain to kids why it is important to keep their skin clean and moisturized and why it is important to take care of their skin. Get them in the habit of drying themselves to remove the excess dead skin and using a moisturizer after a shower.
